I am looking for information about John Samuel RUSSELL, married to Mary SCHRIEVES. Their dates of birth are unknown to me, but their son, Samuel Tilton RUSSELL, was born 25 Jan 1879 in Parksley, Accomack, VA. Am seeking information about Jacob MOORE who is listed as Ancestor No. 54 in A. Ray GRIFFIN, Jr's.' AHNENTAFEL as a great, great grandfather. Jacob MOORE married Margaret BONHAM circa 1795 in New Hanover Co., NC after her family migrated there from New Jersey. She married Gilbert Hall there in 1802 and they were listed in the 1820 Accomack County Federal Census as having three sons.

Cannot find surname Belda in the Northampton area.Antonio & Victoria migrated to this area sometime in latel900's date not known. I am Donald son of Jocquine(Joe)P. son of Antonio & Victoria. After retiring from the USAF in 1974 disabled, we remained south for health reasons, missing out on cousins in the Northampton area. The original family migrated from either Seville or Barcelonia Spain area. (In Spain, Paya-Maestra surnames.)Joe migrated to Norfolk-Newport News area.Help Please.

JACOB PARKERSON - I'm needing info on Jacob Parkerson. He as born March 3, 1761 in Northhampton County, VA and later resided in Pulaski County, GA, which part of the county became known as Dodge County, GA. He as raised and resided in Northhampton County and was enlisted in that county in the fall of 1777 and was soon after attached to Mulenburg's Brigade and immediately marched to Williamsbug and from there to the school hill at Valley Forge. On April 1835, he went to Pulaski County, GA Superior Court to make a declaration of his service during the Revolutionary War under the Revolutionary Pension #S-31902. I am researching any info on his siblings and parents. The furtherest back on his history is Jacob himself. Thank You!!!

Tracing the Hoskins, particularly Wulliam Hoskins who was in Halifax Co. VA.in the 1700.

My family is Shores & Williams from Tanger Island, Va My greatgrandparents were Jenny & Robert Williams. My grandfather was Henry Colburn Shores who died at age 26 or 27 after WW1 on Tangier. His parents were Pettie or Petty and Mary Shores but I can't find anything about Henry. dob dod or etc. I was also interested in how long my relatives were on the island I believe at least the 1800's. Any and all information about Richard Jester (1632-1689)who died at Accomack. Richard had 500 acres there and had four sons and a daughter. I am a descendant of his son, Thomas. The other children were named Richard,Jr., Francis, Samuel, and Susanna. Francis, Samuel and Thomas were still at Accomack in 1704.

I am trying to find information on the Henry family, the Donelson family and the Davis family all of which lived on the eastern shore during the early 1700s. Some of them moved further west during that same century. Does anyone know if there might be some of their decendants still living in the area. Also, I wonder if anyone can tell me if salvery was a common practice on the eastern shore during the 18th and 19th centuries? If so did slaves often take the lsat name of their masters?

I am searching for my ggggrandfather, Charles Purnell m. Isabella Crozier in 1822. He was born in Virginia abt. 1800. He may have a brother named William born about 1805. They were in Ross Co., Ohio after 1820.

I am looking for Angerona Jane Taylor's Grandmother Betsey (I think). Angerona's mother's name was Susan Taylor. Susan married a John Taylor about July 1857. John, Susan, Elizabeth and Angerona are listed in the 1860 Accomack County Census record on pages 70 & 71. I can't verify Susan's mother nor John's parents believed to be Thomas and Nancy. I have looked over the marriage records and 1850 / 1860 census records and can't place them. Angerona married Crippen Dennis Taylor in Oct 1875. They are my Great Grandparents.

I am trying to find information on an L. Brooks Hart who lived in Melfa, VA in early 1930's. He was married to a Clara Thomas and had a son Thomas Keith Hart in 1932 in Melfa. All three persons are deceased. Thomas Keith is the father of my son, Tim. Tim was 4 y.o. when his father died in the 1970's. Has anyone searching though the records of Accomac or Northampton Co. seen any reference to an Andrew or Anthony Harrison? I suspect that they may have settled there for a short period of time possibley between 1640-1660 before they came to the Northern Neck. Thank you for any help.

The brickwall in my recent family history is William Augustus PARKER, b.1870 Accomack,VA, m.1891 in Wicomico Co,MD, d.1916 in Sussex Co,DE. All records found indicate VA birth, but have not located his parents nor his birth record. My other E. Shore Parkers have been more coperative--starting with Geo.& Florence on down to me!! I am trying to find the descendants of HENRY ALEXANDER WISE, governor of Virginia from 1856-1860. He was descended from the original JOHN WISE who came to Accomack County in 1650 from England. HAW was the son of Maj. JOHN WISE and SARAH CORBIN. HAW's surviving sons were RICHARD ALSOP WISE and JOHN SERGEANT WISE who was married to EVELYN BEVERLY DOUGLAS WISE. My grandfather was Alva Odell Wise and the story has come down that he was the GGson of HAW. I would like to verify this. Can anyone help?

I have a question on a family member. His name was John F. Drummond. He was my great-grandfather. He died in Chester, Pa on November 13, 1936 but was returned to Accomack County to be buried. In fact on the death certificate it states he was buried in Sanford, Virginia. Could someone please help me located where he maybe buried. It is possible that he maybe buried in a unmarked grave as were many of my relatives are and still are!! Thank you.

Am looking for info on the Civitan family. Currently there is a Camp Civitan in Chesapeake that the Civitan family donated (?) to the City. Camp Civitan currently serves the Mentally and Physically challenged people in the Tidewater area. my husband is the Project Manager at the camp and would like to put together a history. We know that at one time the camp was part of a plantation and that one of the historical buildings was torn down in the last decade. (?) Also a local artist rendered a painting of this building before it was torn down. I know this is not much to go on, but any lead would be helpful. Thank you in advance!!

Who were the parents of John W. Whealton (or Wealton) born August l848 in Chincoteague, Accomack Co., Virginia and died April 1904 in Hancock, Michigan. Married to Johanna O'Neil, December 1873.

I am looking for the parents of Riley Kellum, my 3rd great-grandfather.

Riley Kellum was born circa 1795 in NC, and served in a NC Regiment during the War of 1812. He married China Segraves on May 20, 1816, in Wake County, NC. His son Smith Kellum was born circa 1817 in NC. Riley was given land in Alabama for his service in the War of 1812, and he and his family moved to Bibb County, AL in the 1820s. Riley moved to Mississippi after 1840, where he lived until his death in the 1860s. Smith Kellum, now an adult, remained in Alabama. After Riley's death, China retuned to Alabama, where she lived until her death.

Given that Riley Kellum named his son Smith Kellum, I believe that he is connected to one of the Smith Kellums living in Accomack or Northampton County, VA during the 18th century. I believe that there is a strong possibility that Riley is related to Smith Kellum [b. circa 1739, VA], son of Moses Kellum [b. circa 1718, VA; d. 1773, Northampton County, VA]. Whitelaw's history of Virginia's Eastern Shore indicates that Smith Kellum inherited from his father Moses Kellum in 1773. According to Whitelaw, Smith and his wife Mary later moved to North Carolina. During the 1790s, a Smith Kellum was mentioned in several deeds in NC.

Moses Kellum's will was probated in Northampton County, VA on December 14, 1773. Moses is identified as a planter of Hungars Parish. He left half his land to his son Smith Kellum, and the other half to his daughter Luraner (?). If his son and daughter died without issue, Moses left his remaining estate to his brother Benjamin Kellum and his brother Solomon Kellum's children.

I am interested in corresponding with others who are researching the Kellum family, and in exchanging information. I look forward to hearing from you.

He was born in 1814 in Acc. and died in 1894 in Pocomoke. He married Margaret Jane Miles. He was my gggrandfather. He was not the Wm. S. who was born later and may have been the nephew of my Wm. S. My gggrandmother was Ann (Nancy) Elliott Travis Fox. She married William Fox 3 Sept 1834. She was the daughter of Thomas Elliott and Sally Widgeon. Ann Elliott married 1. Eliott Travis 13 Aug 1821 (Northampton Co. marriages) and then 2. William Fox in 1834. I know there were at least two children from the Fox union: Rebecca Fox (my ggrandmother) and Rosina Fox. Seeking any & all info on multi-great grandpop JOHN MERRY JESTER b. before 1765 Chincoteague, VA & sailor of VA State Navy 3-yrs during our Revolution. Need to know his first wife. Also in hot persuit of PETTIT branch, Sign Post, VA (nr. Horntown) area going back to MAJOR PETTIT, b. ca. 1725 & JOHN GOOTEE b. 1800 Worcester MD, too. Any idea when & how the first PETTIT arrived? Trying to locate information on ancestor. Her name was Cora Jackson she started from WVA, making her way to Nachitoches, Louisiana ending up in Crown Point, LA. About 10 to 15 miles outside of New Orleans. She was born in 1834, and died in 1938 at the age of 104 . She was a property owner in New Orleans, LA of the Ida Plantation, in Crown Point LA, just above Lafitte, LA. She had two children Alex and Mary Jackson.

I have several relatives burried there. I am looking for anyone who may have known of my grand father, Alonzo W. Heath. He died in 1926 in Quinby, VA. He was the son of Louis D. Heath and Olevia S. Hi!!! My name is Calvin Jefferson ... I live in Baltimore, Maryland, and I have recently begun researching my paternal-family geneaolgy ... I have found that my great grandfather -- GEORGE LEE JEFFERSON was born March 17, 1871, in Virginia (he eventually moved to Baltimore where he died) but we do not know in which city he was born but are awaiting to receive a birth certificate from the state ... his father (my great-great grandfather) was GEORGE JEFFERSON ... my living family has told me the Jeffersons are from the eastern shore of Virginia and were farmers there ... My grandfather(Andrew Marshall) and grandmother (Sadie Drummond) had four children according to my father's birth certificate. I knew of my father (Garland) and his sister (Gladys) who lived to become adults. My question is does anyone know when or where the other two children are buried. My father talked about a brother named Andrew Garland Marshall. Could have been born in 1914. Neither of these children where alive in 1920.

My Mom's name is Jeanne Linton. Apparently, she and M.K. Miles are cousins of some sort and know each other. Anyway, in the Bruton Parish church in colonial Williamsburg, there is a Thomas Lyttleton Savage buried with his wife. On his tombstone it says his father was named Thomas Lyttleton Savage and his mother was named Margaret Teackle. I was just wondering how she's related to the Teackles of Princess Anne (Teackle mansion). I'm very interested in my family history, and I have been since I was 13. I have an Edward WEBB, who is found in the 1810 and 1820 Northampton census. In 1807 he married nancy DOWNTAIN. They had four children. Two of them, my GGGrandfather Samuel WEBB and his brother Edward F are in Saline Co MO by 1831. They were orphaned around 1827 and are found in the Guardianship Accounts under the control of Vincent WEBB, who is also in the 1810 and 1820 census. I assume he is a brother of my Edward. Looking for information on above Edward or Vincent WEBB and Nancy DOWNTAIN. Nancy's wedding bond was sec. by William DOWNTAIN.

My gggrandfather was Severn Whitehead whose earliest record I have been able to find is a marriage bond, 12/23/1837 posted to marry Martha Ann Ranborn in Portsmouth Parish, Norfolk Co. State Library archivists indicates Severn was popular name on Eastern Shore. Earliest census record is 1850 and 1860 in Porstmouth, but 1870 shows Martha a widow. No mortality record for death, although Norfolk Co. records missing for 1860-1863. Severn probably born 1816-1820. Census says parents born in Virginia. Does anyone have records of Whiteheads in Northampton and Accomac Co.? I live in Scottsdale, Arizona, and records here are not plentiful. Thank you.

I have traced my LAWS family back to Accomac, VA in 1642, my gggggggrandfather was John Laws. My ggggrandfather was William Laws and I understand he was the first pastor at Modest Town Baptist Church. After he passed away, his children moved to IL, MO, OK and ARK. My great-aunt's maiden name was Eleanora Satchell, she had one brother whose name was Jessie Satchell and her mothers maiden name was Mary Russell. Who later married a Satchell, then a Brown upon his death and relocated to Portsmouth, VA. She told me that her grandmother worked as a cook in a jail located on the eastern shore. I am estimating the time period to have been in the early 1900's. Her grandmother's name was possibly Rebecca Russell. I have a group photo taken somewhere on the Shore in, I would think, the end of the 1800's judging from the clothing worn. I believe it might be in front of a church. There's a small frame one-story building with about 20 adults standing and a couple dozen children seated, in front. In the foreground is a young man who appears to be a minister kneeling down. I am looking for the parents or maiden name of Jemima Bloxom, wife of Sealmore Bloxom. Jemima was born on March 15, 1827 in New Jersey. She was listed in the 1850 census in Atlantic County, New Jersy as the wife of Elvie Adams. Jemima, Elvie and six kids moved to Chincoteague Island, Virginia in 1858, were Elvie died shortly afterward. Jemima married Sealmore Bloxom on December 10, 1861 in Worcester, Maryland. Jemima died on December 6, 1892.

I am researching my ABRAMS line and found picture of a firefighter John Abrams on the VTLS site under US Army Signal Corp Photo Collection. The picture was taken 11/22/1944 at the Hamptom Roads Port of Embarkation. I am looking for Tavenner's located in and around the Baltimore, Maryland area. George Washington Tavenner married Josephine Williams sometime in the later 1800's. It is said that his father married a woman with the last name of Ball. She was widowed and had a large family, some where in the neighborhood of ten children. Maybe I should be looking under the name of Ball, as well.

In Northampton Cty. circa 1670's Humphrey Gwyn owned 75 acres on Cherrystone Crk. He was living in Gloucester Cty. Evidently he was heir of Gwyn's Island as he was listed as a principal loser of property during the Bacon Rebellion. What were his ties to this Cty.?

I went to Capeville Elem. and when I went inside to see my old classrooms my husband and I ran out screaming ( silly, I know), but it was really creepy. My name is Arthur Smith (Eugene, Madison, Daniel, Ezekiel Francis, Ezekiel, Capt.Aaron Smith). Capt Aaron was married to Elizabeth Carraway. She was the daughter of John Carraway IV and Margaret Keeling of Princess Anne Co., Va. I am trying to find the parents of Capt. Aaron Smith. I have information that indicates that his parents may be Tully Robinson Smith and Francis Unknown of Accomack County. Tully Robinson Smith is the son of George Smith Jr. and grandson of Dr. George Smith and Elizabeth Robinson. His mother was West Robinson daughter of Col. Tully Robinson and Sarah West. Francis (the wife of Tully Robinson Smith) had a William Keeling and his wife as witness to her will and William Keeling as executor. This suggests that she may have been a Keeling. My problem is that the only children that I have found for Tully Robinson and Francis are Elizabeth Smith, Francis Smith, and Susannah Smith, no Aaron Smith. Do any of you old Ghotes have any information on the descendants of Tully Robinson Smith or on any Smith who could be the parent of Capt. Aaron Smith? One source claims that Capt Aaron Smith had a number of brothers and that all of them had biblical names. Looks like Tully Robinson Smith may have had all girls and no Aaron. If so forget the Tully Robinson Smith line. It has also been claimed that Capt. Aaron Smith is the son of a John Smith and a Francis Keeling. If this be so then could he be the John Smith who was a witness to the will of John Wise on September 20, 1741, (Nottingham wills and abstracts of Accomack County page 124)? I am interested in any Smith line that may be connected to the Carraway or Keeling families of Princess Anne County. Take up the challenge and try to find a John Smith or a Tully Smith who could be the parent of Capt. Aaron Smith born about 1720.

LUKE STEBBINS My William Ennis and John Stockley were security for his widow. Ennis's wife's name was Percis, I have only found that given name in the Stebbins Family of New England. My ancestor is Anne Godbey or Godby. She was arrested 9 or 10 times during the 1600's. Half the arrests were for attending Quaker meetings. The other arrests were for various offenses. I have a gggrandfather named Powhatan Cromwell, b. Nov. 26, 1824, I don't know where. Married Martha Oliver Jan. 03, 1850, Anderson County, KY. Died April 06, 1898, Georgia City, Jasper County, Missouri. Assuming he may have Native American blood, I would like to locate the Indian village called Powhatan (Henrico) as a starting point. In what county was it located.

PINN FAMILY- My ancestors were the Pinn's of Northumberland and Lancaster County Virginia. They were Native Americans and lived along Indian Creek in Lancaster County about 1733. I believe some of my ancestors including Robert Pinn I [1710-1760)may be buried along Indian Creek in Lancaster County. He belonged to Wicomico Parish Church in Northumberland which means he was Christian and they may also have records. The Pinn's now live all over Virginia and Maryland but most trace their ancestry to Northumberland County.

ALEXANDER WARRINGTON born 7/9/1786 died 9/20/1847 and MARY HALL, wife of Alexander Warrington born 2/7/1793 died 11/16/1849. the other stone was difficult to read but looked like ELIZA HELLEN PARKER , daughter of Pierce and Eliza A., his wife died 3/5/1849 aged 6 months and 26 days.

We are researching Savage decendents that lived at the corner of 4420 Main street and Savage street on Chincoteague. Across the street from Savage feed & grain storage building. We have established a time line back from Lillian Savage Jones, owner from 1936 to 1963. Her father Isacc Henry Savage had this property from 1894 to 1936. We are not sure if the house was already built when he became owner. Our goal is to find the year this house was built, and to learn about the lives of the people who lived here. My maternal grandmother (in the 1920s) traced her descent back to two GHOTES ancestors: William Henry Custis and Elzabeth Savage (Willett) Custis

I am now picking up the trail. We know this about these two Custis ancestors: William Henry was born in about 1776, Elizabeth in about 1780. They were married in Northampton County in 1804. Elizabeth was the widow of Douglass Willett. They emigrated (with four children) to Ohio in 1811. The intervening generations of our family (through my mother) were born in Ohio. And, William Henry Custis had an older brother, Robinson (sometimes called Robertson) Custis, who married a sister of Elizabeth Savage, Mary (Polly) Savage. These two brothers and they wives (two sisters) all emigrated to Ohio.

What we don't know is anything about the ancestors prior to William Henry and Elizabeth. We have names--Abel Savage and Elizabeth Dunton Savage were Elizabeth Savage Custis's parents; John Henry Custis and Elizabeth Downing, we think, were William Henry's parents. But we have not to date been able to trace back beyond that to the earlier Custis, Savage, Downing and Dunton ancestors. I have learned that there are a lot of branches of these family trees between 1600 and 1800 in Virginia, and I'm trying to find the ones that connect.

My ancestors were from the Isle of Wight and Southampton Counties, at least the ones I can find were. Also there is a John Corbitt that has me baffled. According to records in Isle of Wight Co., the earliest record of a Corbitt is of John Corbitt who came as a headright of Thomas Powell around 1680. It seems that Thomas Powell had a son Nathaniel who married Lucretia. He also had a brother Nathaniel who was among the most prominent of the early settlers. He and his wife were killed in the massacre of 1622. On 21 Jun 1626 Thomas Powell(brother of Nathaniel) came to America to claim his brothers properties. Thomas Powell also had a son named Nathaniel. In Thomas' will dated 12 July 1683, probated 9 Feb 1687/8,he named his daughter-in-law Lucretia Powell Corbitt. This daughter-in-law mentioned in his will, was the widow of his son Nathaniel, whose inventory was presented in Isle of Wight court 10 Mar 1678. Upon oath of Lucretia the relict of Nathaniel Powell deed, and now wife of John Corbitt...

QUESTION: If this the same John Corbitt listed in Isle of Wight in 1680? There were several deed transactions associated with a John Corbitt. In 1745 he purchased 100 acres of land in Newport Parish, Isle of Wight Co. He sold this land in 1747 to Samuel Corbitt. QUESTION? The John Corbitt m to Lucretia, did they have children? The John Corbitt who purchased the land in 1745, was he the son of the first John? John sold that same land to Samuel Corbitt in 1747, was Samuel John's son?

As you can see, I have several mysteries. I can trace our descendants to Samuel Corbitt,Sr. who died in 1789 but have been unable to make a connection with this John Corbitt.

I have some information, My line is as follows John Parramore of James Parramore of James married Jimimah Spence of smith island in July.5,1849 in Accomack co. I am trying to find my great-great grandfather, John Hamilton who was born in 1815 and married Mary Bell in 1838 in Northampton Co. I think. His children were Edward Washington Hamilton, Thomas, Lloyd, and Charlotte. Edward Washington Hamilton was my great grandfather and he married Sallie Dix Bell in 1867. Looking for information on James W. Fagan born in Northampton County in 1807. His father may have been John Feagins. Can anyone help?

Looking for any information on Elizabeth BIBBINS and Thomas J. JENKINS I pretty sure Elizabeth was born and raised in Sanford, VA upper Accomack County on the bay side. This is what her obituary stated. I found them both buried in Downing Cemetary at Oak Hall. Elizabeth went by Lizzie and was born in 1879 Thomas was born in 1869, not sure if he was born in Accomack county or not, feelings are very strong that he was. I did find them in the 1920 census in Colonial Beach VA and it stated that he was a Captain of a vessel. Have looked through a lot of census records but rarely find the BIBBINS name. Did find one in 1870 but they already had an 11 year daughter named Elizabeth. Any one out there recognize the names? Could use all the help I can get. Thank you. And good hunting to all.

Where was the Ulster Plantation? One reference found, that Sir George Grimes and Sir Richard Grimes build a stone house and barn there. I have been unable to find further reference to the Plantation, or the Grimes. Can anyone help?
