He was married to Gazella THORNTON (daughter of John T. THORNTON and Annie M. THORNTON) on January 15, 1875 in Chincoteague, Va. Gazella THORNTON was born in 1856. She died on January 9, 1944. She was buried in Greenwood Cem., Chincoteague, Va. Gazelle lived to be 98 years old, and lived in small home on "Tick Town"Road in Chincoteague built by Clarence D. Burton. She developed "senile dementia." Gazelle Cherricks' mother's brother was John Neal Thornton's father, therefore John Neal Thornton and Prisceel Cherricks Baker were first cousins.

 22. Charles Henry CHERRICKS was born on May 2, 1868 in Chincoteague, Va. He died on August 6, 1934 in Chincoteague, Va. Dates from Michelle Melvin. Charles changed spelling of Cherricks to Cherrix prior to 1928.

 He was married to Ella Lee DAISEY (daughter of James David DAISEY Jr. and Catherine MASON) on October 2, 1886 in Wachapreague, Accomac Co., Va. Ella Lee DAISEY was born on June 28, 1869 in Chincoteague, Va. She died on February 13, 1961 in Rehoboth Beach, DE. She was buried in Redman's Cem., Chincoteague, Va. Ref: Michelle Melvin Ella died at age 91 yrs.

 34. Pricella CHERRICKS was born on December 16, 1880 in Chincoteague, Accomac, Virginia. She died on July 22, 1952 in Chincoteague, Accomac, Virginia. She was buried in Chincoteague, Accomac, Virginia. Came from a family of 8 children. Loved to eat chicken necks ! Died of gangrene of leg. Died in her living room. Buried in Greenwood Cemetery at Chincoteague with Joe Baker.

 She was married to Josiah "Joe" Selby BAKER (son of Josiah P. BAKER and Mary Hester "Esther" HUDSON) on November 1, 1900 in Chincoteague, Va. Josiah "Joe" Selby BAKER was born on November 29, 1878. He died on June 28, 1935 in Chincoteague, Accomac, Virginia. He was buried in Chincoteague, Accomac, Virginia. "Joe" Baker was a blacksmith. Helped doctors with amputations. Laid the water line from main land to Chincoteague with self-made diving outfit. Died of cancer of stomach. He was Mayor of Chincoteague. Joe and Prisella married by Rev.W.S.Beckett -Marriage Register-Accomack

 36. Emory W. CHERRICKS was born on February 22, 1886. He died on April 12, 1976. He was buried on April 14, 1976 in Berlin, Maryland. "Uncle Emory" lived in Berlin, Maryland after marrying. He had 2 daughters who used to visit often in Chincoteague in 1930-40's. He lived to be in his 80's. Wife's name was Mary Elizabeth. Uncle Emory was in Coast Guard and served on lighthouse upper Chesapeake Bay.

 Had daughters - Thelma Lee and Elizabeth.

 One other brother (George Allen ) and brother - in -law (Ray Peterson) were also in Coast Guard.

 Mary Elizabeth was born in 1897. She was buried on April 21, 1975. Emory W. CHERRICKS and Mary Elizabeth had the following children:

 66 i. Thelma Lee CHERRICKS. Thelma Lee Cherricks married a Baker.

 37. John Allen CHERRICKS was born on April 9, 1894. He died on February 10, 1974. He was buried in Greenwood Cem., Chincoteague, Va. "Uncle" Allen worked on Chesapeake Lightship for over 30 years. Lived to be in 70's..

 E.Delores (Lula) MUNGER (daughter of Parker Sr. MUNGER and Elizabeth DICKERSON) was born in 1900. She died in 1933. She was buried in Greenwood Cem., Chincoteague, Va. Uncle Allen first wife was Ed Munger’s sister. She died and he married Sadie Linder. "Aunt"Sadie and he helped raise the children of Clarence and Esther Burton. Sadie LINDER was born in 1905. She died in 1971. She was buried in Greenwood Cem., Chincoteague, Va. Sadie and her brother were orphaned at an early age. They were taken into different families and were not united until late in life. Sadie was taken in by the Roley Family of Horntown, Virginia. Her brother, who survived her, lived in Baltimore, MD. His wife's name was Ann and they both came to the Public Health Hospital in Baltimore to visit Sadie frequently during her final illness. Sadie died of cancer.

 38. Lillian M. CHERRICKS was born on May 11, 1897. She died in 1937. She was buried in Boothe Cemetery, Chincoteague, Va. Lillian Cherricks married Ray Peters. He served in Coast Guard. She died of cancer.

 Ray PETERS was born in 1892. He died in 1966. He was buried in Mechanics Cem., Chincoteague, Va.

FIFTH GENERATION

He was married to Mary Elizabeth WATSON on March 1, 1895. George CHERRICKS and Mary Elizabeth WATSON had the following children:

47. Mollie Catherine CHERRIX was born on July 28, 1889 in Chincoteague, Virginia. She died on August 6, 1978 in Rehobeth Beach, DE. Re:Michelle Melvin She was married to David Godwin MELVIN (son of William Edward MELVIN and Mary Ella UNKNOWN) on April 15, 1905. David Godwin MELVIN was born on November 20, 1884 in Chincoteague, Va. He died on January 25, 1940 in Beebe Hospital, Lewes DE. He was buried in Rehobeth Beach, DE. He was married to Bessie M. ????. Bessie M. ???? was born on May 17, 1892.

She died on October 11, 1968. Calvin E. JEFFRIES and Bessie M. ???? had

 64. Esther Alena BAKER was born on November 24, 1901 in Chincoteague, Accomac, Virginia. She died on January 15, 1969 in Nassawadox, Northampton, Virginia. She was buried about January 17, 1969 in Oak Hall, Accomac, Virginia. Attended "Harrisonberg Normal School" -later Madison College for one year, quit to marry Clarence Burton. 

Pallbearers at funeral were James Powell,Edwin Leatherbury,LeRoy Bull, King Niblett, Julian White, Ernest Jones Sr. and Donald Jester. Minister at funeral Rev.William E.Hindman, assisted by Rev.Raymond Britton.

 She was married to Clarence Donald BURTON (son of Woolsey BURTON and Nancy Jane TAYLOR) on January 1, 1921 in Chincoteague, Accomac, Virginia. Clarence Donald BURTON was born on October 4, 1900 in Chincoteague, Accomac, Virginia. He died on December 29, 1962 in Nassawadox, Northampton, Virginia. He was buried on January 1, 1963 in Oak Hall, Accomac, Virginia. "C.D." Burton quit school in 9th grade. Bought the first truck on Chincoteague - a Model T Ford and started a trucking business. For 25

years hauled seafood and produce to Lanacaster, Harrisburg,Pa and to Syracue, N.Y. and Fulton Market in NYC. Joined Archie D.Birch and went into Seafood Business -bought Arcchie D.out and built Burton's Seafood across street from Pony Pines on East Side. At peak business in 1961 was shipping 1 million clams per day and was undisputed "Clam King " of U.S. Willed Cropper St House to daughter Mary, had bought Uncle Stewart's house on Cleveland St and willed that to daughter Sally who sold it and moved to Michigan. Died age 62.

65. Stewart George BAKER was born on January 22, 1904 in Chincoteague, Accomac, Virginia. He died on October 16, 1953 in Chincoteague, Accomac, Virginia. He was buried in Downing Ceme..

 Mildred WINDER (daughter of John WINDER Sr. and Inez E. TAYLOR) was born in 1903. She died in 1988. She was buried in Downing Cemetery.

SIXTH GENERATION

74. Ruth Ella MELVIN was born on March 5, 1908. Re:M.Melvin

 He was married to Rebecca Morgan ELLINGSWORTH on September 19, 1972 in Rehoboth Beach, DE. Rebecca Morgan ELLINGSWORTH was born on May 12, 1919 in Rehobeth, Maryland.

 Katie Louise GIBSON (daughter of William J. GIBSON and Katie Belle Carter DRAPER) was born on October 8, 1917 in Lake Lindsey, FL. She died on December 21, 1970 in New Castle, DE

 79. Daisey Beulah JESTER was born on July 17, 1911.

She was married to Robert Kern RUSSELL on April 8, 1933 in Chincoteague, Va. Robert Kern RUSSELL was born on October 20, 1909 in Wilmington, Delaware. He died on April 3, 1956.

87. Leonard Lee BURTON was born on August 14, 1925 in Chincoteague, Accomac, Virginia. He died on January 28, 1979 in Nassawadox, Northampton, Virginia. He was buried about February 1, 1979 in Oak Hall, Accomac, Virginia. He founded Seafood Festival with Wayne Browning and H.B.Rew. He quit school in 7th grade and started driving truck for Pop.
