John Henry Castle and Elaine Marie Berry was united in Holy Matrimony July 23, 1940, in Philadelphia, PA. Prior to their marriage John was residing with his mother, Laura Castle-Justice at 4302 Aspen St. Elaine was residing with her grandparents, Isaiah and Pearl Garrison at 727 N. Lex St. According to their marriage application, John was twenty-four years old and Elaine was sixteen years old. Because she was underage, Elaine had to obtain the permission of her guardian, Pearl Garrison; which was given. Over the course of fourteen years, Elaine gave birth to eight children, all of whom she wanted. I remember asking her why she had so many children and she remarked that eight was the amount that she wanted.

What I remember about the married life of John and Elaine would not fill a page. I quess that what stands out most in my mind is that they were seldom home at the same time, which was thr result of Mom working nights and Daddy working days. They used to argue about Mom playing cards and Daddy having other women. For the most part, their marriage was no different from any other, in that they both worked to provide for their family. We always had plenty of food on the table, clothes to wear, a more than decent home to live in, toys to play with, and never missed either a family or school trip.

Until I receive additional information from my siblings, I will fill this space with what information that I remember about our names.

- Sandra Marie was not named after anyone that I know of;

- Jeannette Inez received hername from our first cousin, Inez Corbin.

- Doris Jean was not named after anyone that I know of.

- Frances Anne was supposedly named after our great-grandmother,

Pearl Garrison. According to family rememberances, Pearl's actual name

was Mary Pearl Frances Anne Phobe Alice Berry, nee Brown.

- Patricia Dianne was not named after anyone that I recall.

- John Henry was named after our father, after John Henry Sr.

- Arthur Eugene Nathaniel was named after our maternal grandfather, Arthur

Berry.

- David Lorenzo was named after our faternal uncle, David Justice, and very good friend of Daddy's, Lorenzo (Rennie).
