1. Littleton UPSHUR I was born on April 26, 1758 in Accomack Co., VA He died on August 27, 1811. He was buried in "Warwick.@ He was married to Ann "Nancy" PARKER (daughter of George PARKER V and Adah BAGWELL) about 1781. Ann "Nancy" PARKER was born on August 25, 1763. She died on June 18, 1820. (See Whitelaw=s Virginia=s Eastern Shore p.415.) Warwick in 1997 is shown at right.

2. Col. Littleton UPSHUR II was born on August 14, 1783 in "Vaucluse.@ Hedied on October 10, 1832. [Future link to Vaucluse photo.] He was married to Mary Vaughn WILSON (daughter of Thomas WILSON and Mary VAUGHAN) on December 23, 1810. Mary Vaughn WILSON was born on July 28,1793. She died on October 20, 1829.

CARPENTER (daughter of John CARPENTER Sr. and Lucy GAULT) on April 27, 1811 in Northampton Co., VA. Elizabeth G. CARPENTER died on December 21, 1822.

Judge UPSHUR married 1st. Elizabeth Dennis, daughter of Hon. John Dennis of Maryland, on February 26, 1817 in "Beckford,@ Princess Anne Co, MD.. Elizabeth W. DENNIS was born on January 6, 1795 in Somerset Co., MD. She died in childbirth on November 28, 1817 in "Vaucluse.@ She was buried in "Vaucluse,@ Northampton Co., VA.. His 2 nd marriage was to his 2^nd cousin Elizabeth Ann Brown UPSHUR.(daughter of John Brown UPSHUR I and Mary"Molly" Elizabeth STITH) was born on April 8, 1805. She died on January 17, 1874. She was buried in Oak Hill Cem., Washington, DC.

Abel Parker UPSHUR Judge and Elizabeth W. DENNIS had the following children:

8. John Leah Custis UPSHUR Dr. was born in 1792 in "Vaucluse.@ He died on May 15, 1818. He was buried in "Sylvan Retreat,@ Pungoteague, VA. Dr. UPSHUR committed suicide 18 days after his young bride died. He was married to Lucy PARKER (daughter of Thomas PARKER and Elizabeth ANDREWS) on April 15, 1818. Lucy PARKER was born in 1796. She died on April 29, 1818. She was buried in "Sylvan Retreat,@ Pungoteague, VA Lucy was Dr. Upshur's 1st cousin. [Photo, Sylvan Retreat. BC]

9. George Parker UPSHUR Commander was born on March 8, 1799 in "Vaucluse,@ Northampton Co., VA He died on May 3, 1852 in Spezia, Italy. Commander UPSHUR was the 2nd Superintendent of U.S. Naval Academy. He was married to Margaret Eyre "Peggy" PARKER (daughter of Severn Eyre PARKER Gen. and Maria Teackle SAVAGE) on June 25, 1836 in Kendall Grove, Northampton Co., VA. Margaret Eyre "Peggy" PARKER was born on October 13, 1814 in "Selma,@ Eastville, Northampton Co.,VA. She died on October 4, 1839 in Norfolk, VA. She was buried in "Vaucluse,@ Northampton Co., VA.

George Parker UPSHUR Commander and Margaret Eyre "Peggy" PARKER had the following children:

10. Elizabeth Parker UPSHUR was born on March 11, 1801. She died on September 15, 1879 in Norfolk, VA. She was buried in Elmwood Cem., Norfolk, VA. She was married to John E. NOTTINGHAM on December 30, 1820 in Northampton Co., VA.

Elizabeth Parker UPSHUR and John E. NOTTINGHAM had the following children:

Ann Elizabeth UPSHUR and Peter Poythress MAYO had the following children:

14. Arthur Wilson UPSHUR Dr. was born on February 8, 1817 in "Pear Plain,@ Northampton Co., VA. He died at sea on September 2, 1844. He was buried off the coast of Cuba. He was married to Esther Burton Parramore BAYLY (daughter of James UPSHUR BAYLY and Esther Burton PARRAMORE) on February 6, 1835 in Northampton Co., VA. Esther Burton Parramore BAYLY was born in 1821 in "Cedar Grove,@ Northampton Co., VA. She died on September 19, 1843. She was buried in Hills Farm, Accomack Co., VA.

Arthur Wilson UPSHUR Dr. and Esther Burton Parramore BAYLY had the following children:

18. Ellen Vaughan Savage UPSHUR (twin) was born on January 30, 1824. She was married to William Wilkinson GREGORY Dr. (son of Richard GREGORY and Elizabeth WILKINSON) on November 8, 1847 in Northampton Co., VA. William Wilkinson GREGORY Dr. was born on December 8, 1812 in Charlotte, NC.

Ellen Vaughan Savage UPSHUR (twin) and William Wilkinson GREGORY Dr. had the following children:

21. Littleton UPSHUR III was born on July 31, 1827. He died on March 15, 1884 in Greenwood, Mississippi. He was married to Mattie MACON (daughter of Henry J. MACON and Arabella ALLSTON) in 1855. Mattie MACON was born on July 18, 1840.

22. Thomas Harold Wilson UPSHUR Dr. was born on October 20, 1829. He died on April 12, 1902 in Atlanta, Ga.. (NOTE: One of the oft-cited Upshur books gives the date of death as April 12, 1890. However, we have personal communication from a great great grandson of Thomas Harold Wilson Upshur, i.e., Peyton Carter father of Parker Upshur Carter, to the effect that the book is in error and that Thomas Harold Wilson Upshur actually died in 1902.)  He married Maria Louise SHEPHERD.

32. Littleton Dennis UPSHUR was born on November 15, 1818. He died on February 19, 1862 in Mass.. He was married to Abby Frances LOVELL (daughter of George LOVELL and Mary HILLIARD) on November 27, 1850.

(son of Tench RINGGOLD and Mary Aylett LEE) on August 2, 1846 in Northampton Co., VA. Thomas Lee RINGGOLD Maj. was born on June 29, 1818 in Loudoun Co., VA He died on May 11, 1854. He was buried in Oak Hill Cem., Washington, DC.

Susan Parker Brown UPSHUR and Thomas Lee RINGGOLD Maj. had the following children:

37. George Littleton UPSHUR-NOTTINGHAM Dr. was born on January 14, 1822. He died on September 19, 1855. He was buried in Elmwood Cem., Norfolk, VA Doctor George Nottingham had name changed to George Upshur by his uncles Judge Upshur and Capt. UPSHUR.. Dr. George UPSHUR, during the yellow fever scourge in Norfolk, offered his professional services,and after doing much good work died of the fever in 1855. A monument has recently {??BC} been erected to his memory in Norfolk, VA... He was married to Sarah Andrews PARKER (daughter of Jacob Godwin PARKER and Anne Gertrude STRATTON) on February 8, 1844 in Northampton Co., VA Sarah Andrews PARKER was born on December 31, 1822. She died on August 20, 1910. She was buried in Elmwood Cem., Norfolk, VA

38. John Henry UPSHUR- NOTTINGHAM Adm. was born on December 5, 1823. John Henry Nottingham had his last name changed to UPSHUR by 2 uncles - Judge UPSHUR and Capt. George UPSHUR- neither of whom had sons. Admiral John Henry UPSHUR (Nottingham) was "Admiral UPSHUR" of the Navy .He was Dean at the Naval Academy at Annapolis for about 50 years and died over the age of 90. He was married to Katherine Alica WILLIAMS (daughter of William George WILLIAMS and America Pickney PETER) in 1851 in Northampton Co., VA  Katherine Alica WILLIAMS was born in 1834. She died on August 22, 1864.

John Henry UPSHUR-NOTTINGHAM Adm. and Katherine Alica WILLIAMS had the following children:

75 i. Custis Parke (UPSHUR) NOTTINGHAM b. August 21, 1852.

He was married to Agnes MAXWELL in 1868. She died on July 2, 1917.
