Abbreviations Used in the Virtual Cemetery

The abbreviations used throughout the cemetery site refer to the three current books on cemeteries found on the Shore.  They are

• Jean Mihalyka's Gravestone Inscriptions in Northampton County Virginia).  This is abbreviated as "GI".
• Jean Mihalyka and Faye Downing Wilson's Graven Stones: Inscriptions from Lower Accomack County, Virginia,  including Liberty and Parksley Cemeteries.  This is abbreviated as "GS".
• Mary Frances Carey, Moody K. Miles III, and Barry W. Miles' Tombstone Inscriptions of Upper Accomack County, Virginia.  This is abbreviated as "TUA".

Each cemetery listed is given its book number in brackets.  Thus, the Ames Plot in Northampton County is given the "GI-189" identifier.  The Ames Plot is cemetery number 189 in Gravestone Inscriptions. The virtual cemetery page for the Ames Plot will show "Gravestone Inscriptions: #189", followed by the abbreviation for that cemetery as used in that book.  This information is shown to facilitate corroboration by researchers.
